What "tazkiyah" means

Tazkiyah is the purification of the soul, the lifelong work of returning to fitrah, the pure, God-connected nature every human being is born with. Classical scholarship (elaborated by al-Ghazali and affirmed across the Islamic tradition) describes four aspects of this one integrated soul, each playing a distinct role in that process:
Nafs (the lower self) — the part of the soul drawn toward desire, ego, and the pull of the material world.
Qalb (the heart) — the spiritual center of the person, capable of turning either toward the nafs or toward the ruh; the root of the word literally means "to turn."
Aql (the intellect) — the discerning, reasoning faculty of the heart itself, the part of the qalb that reflects and "intellects."
Ruh (the spirit) — the pure, unchanging core where God's imprint resides, a direct point of connection to the Divine.
Our work is to help restore that alignment, strengthening whichever aspect needs the most attention right now.

Meet
Mufti Ahmad Jafari.

Mufti Ahmad Jafari brings a rare combination of qualifications to his clinical work: over a decade of traditional Islamic scholarship paired with graduate training in clinical mental health counseling. He is currently completing his Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University, while serving as an Assistant Director at a local Islamic School and Certified Mufti for his community.

His scholarly training includes years of study in Arabic, Aqeedah, Usul ul Fiqh, and Hadith & Tafseer, along with a Master's in Theology and Transmission of Hadith. He went on to specialize in Islamic jurisprudence and legal rulings under Mufti Ebrahim Desai at the renowned Darul Iftaa Al-Mahmudiyyah in Durban, South Africa, training that few clinicians in the mental health field possess.

This dual background is the foundation of Tazkiyah Center, the practice he founded to bridge classical Islamic scholarship with clinical care. Clients working with Mufti Ahmad benefit from a counselor who understands both the clinical frameworks used in modern mental health treatment and the religious and spiritual context that shapes their lives, offering guidance that honors both.

what we stand for

Our core values

Every session at Tazkiyah Center is guided by principles drawn from the Qur'an, Sunnah, and modern clinical practice.

01

Faith as Foundation

We begin with the Qur'an and Sunnah, not as a closing thought, but as the bedrock of every conversation, framework, and recommendation.
02

Confidential & Safe

What you share stays between you and Mufti Ahmad. We create a private space free from community pressure, judgment, or shame.
03

Whole-Person Care

Spiritual struggles and emotional pain are inseparable. We hold both with equal weight — honoring your deen without dismissing your humanity.
03

Open to All Levels of Practice

You don't need to be a scholar, or even consistently practicing, to belong here. Many who come to us are just starting to find their way back.
04

Scholarly Integrity

Classical Islamic training meets evidence-based clinical approaches. You receive guidance grounded in real scholarship, not generic advice.
05

Accessible to All

Financial hardship should never be a barrier to healing. We offer financial aid and sliding-scale options for those who need it.
06

Clarity Over Comfort

We don't just validate, we guide. Mufti Ahmad listens deeply, then offers the clear, honest direction your situation deserves.
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا
Undoubtedly, the one who purified it (the soul) has suceeded.
